Creating Highly Effective Teams

Just because a group of people is called a ‘team’ doesn’t mean they are actually working together as one. Good teams start off as a group of people who are aligned in their values and work towards the same goals. Great teams know that collectively they can achieve more than they ever could as individuals.

Investing In Our Team Members

To meet our corporate mission of building highly effective teams, we invest heavily in developing our team members’ non-technical skills. Far too often, the success of projects has been impaired not by the technical ability of the project team, but by the lack of effective communication and the ability to handle conflict.  We believe that these are the fundamental reasons why project teams do not perform to their highest potential.  (For more information on team development visit Project Execution in the Client section.)

At Enserca Engineering, we believe the first step towards becoming a team rather than a group of individuals is a focus on communication.  Every new team member, whether an employee or a contractor, participates in a training module that is focused on becoming aware of communication styles (Insights® Discovery) and the fundamentals of team development.

Additionally, we believe that conflict or tension, can be healthy components of team development.  The ability for teams to be aware of various conflict styles and how tension can be used productively is taught as a separate training module.

It is unusual for an engineering company to focus on skills like communication rather than a single minded focus on the billable hour. However, we believe if we collectively master these skills and deliver a technically sound work product our bottom line will show the positive results of our efforts.
